What is a FITS composite?

Mom and I were having some fun. Using FIT files from the Hubble Space telescope site we created this image. This image is actually composed of three different images downloaded from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Each image represented a different light wave length. We used a plugin for Adobe Photoshop and assigned different hues and colors to each wave length. The image is of two colliding galaxies and is called the Antennae Galaxy collision. It was a blast (no pun intended) and very educational. (Make sure you take a look at the enlarged image.) Above is a view of one of the original files.

What is a FITS composite? I'm sure FITS is an acronym for something. Way high-tec.
